Hello from freezing cold Santa Barbara!

Its about  7 degrees here at the moment..

I arrived here on sunday to hear, that the day before was the last of a 2 week spell of perfect weather and grinding barrels at the famous Rincon Point!

Now im searching for waves at  Sandspit, thinking that this shocking weather must be whipping up enough swell to make the “Spit” rear its ugly head. No luck and its just started hailing!!

Im out here doing some sales and marketing research for my new job…Yes u read correctly, JOB!

After nearly 11 years of surfing for a living and steering as clear as possible away from the working world,Ive finally bit the working bullet!

Ive landed a job heading up the Africa branch one of the most respected surfboard companies in the world.

So, if there was ever a time for me to get my life into gear and join the “real world” it would be now!

This is an insane opportunity for me, in an industry i grew up in and I am super stoked to be apart of this company.

Big thanks to certain people who looked out for me and believed that i am perfectly suited for this position.Thanks guys!

I am hanging out in Santa Barbara for a few more days then heading to a mates house in L.A. for my last night.She lives in Hollywood, so Im guessing its gonna be a very entertaining evening!

Did i mention it is friegen feezing here! haha! Thought so .

Kuta can be pretty heavy!! Not the waves ofcoarse.. The night life here is unbelievable!This place doesn`t have an off switch!

After a 9 hr bus ride  back from G-Land, with the cd and dvd player down..(stopped and bought cheesey cassette tapes,never thought they even exsisted anymore)

We arrived back and checked straight into a cool hotel(100 ooo a night)Rupiah of coarse. Had a shower and headed out on the town..

As we, Myself and Dan(amercican I met in G -Land camp) come out the hotel, I hear” OI BADGE” its two bro`s from down the road in seal point, havin dinner and beers.. Perfect.. settle in for some bintangs and exchange stories of our travels. 5 mins later Dave and Emily also from G Land, walk by “OI Dave!” So our wolf pack grew by 2 more! haha

After 2 hrs of serious bintanging , it was late enough to hit the infamous SKY GARDEN. Best night club ive ever been in ,in my life!! We were all lit up like christmas trees!!

After an insane night, we all ended up vying in differant directions…meeting up for brekkie at same spot as dinner..

Oh my, the bros Philly and Matt arrive ,both sporting fat black eyes and looking the most worse for wear! Phil had been jumped for nothing by bintang vest wearing obnoxious ozzys, the doll he was with ran inside called bro Matt and it was on!! 2 seals o`s vs 8 ozzy chops!! They got a few in ,but got cleaned in the end! Bali for u!

Next day a massive bill board advertising a quiky comp at Keramas catches my eye..I get on the e mail to Jake Patterson who runs quiky things around here and beg to get me in, as its a Indo only comp..

After a long 2 day wait..He mails me back and tunes me he got me a wildcard of sorts!!! So stoked . I imediatly get on the mail to my travel agent Lorrin Jarvis from ALL-ABOARD travel and she sorts me out! with no hitches, to stay on an extra 10 days,as the comp has a waiting period!Ta Lorrin!

So, Bali dreaming ek se! In a comp at Keramas which begins tomorrow. 3 others out! YESSS MAN!

Good morning!

Well it`s come to my final day in G-Land… Its been an amazing week to say the least. Thanks to swell and my good mate who got me here,Doctor Preeti.

Going back a few days…

Was paddling out for a fun 4to 5ft session at money trees with a Hawaiian chap called C.J. 

We had a good chat all the way out in the channel and in the line up..Told Ceej how this trip fell in my lap because I`m friends with Preeti the JOYO`S camp doctor..

Waves here have got sooo much juice! Sh.t can go wrong so easily..3 waves later C.J. was nowhere to be seen..thought nothing of it coz the point is so damn long..At the end of my session i come in to find quite a commotion on the beach! C.J. is in excruciating pain with a needle big enough to kill a small horse laying next to him and Preeti standing behind him pulling on a sheet wrapped around his ribs!

He had turned towards shore on a big double up to bail and the wave had ripped his shoulder so badly outa joint, that it took 4 attempts to get it back in..This looked like and is 1 of the most painful things a human can go through! I couldnt bare to watch anymore..poor Seppo!!

Later that evening Preeti and I were invited by the manager of the other camp, where C.J. was staying..

We were greeted by a much more cheerful and painkillered up C.J. who splashed us beers and cheered Preeti`s praises for her great job.

The funny thing was , no one from his camp had even told him that there was a doctor here in the jungle. He was on the beach totally ruined with an indo fisherman telling him he can pop that thing back, no problem.Thats when he remembered the important convo he had with me and said ,”not a f..k u going near my shoulder, there is a doctor friend of  Stanleys the south african, at JOYO`S, GET HER NOW!!”

Amazing how things work out! After the beers were getting a bit stail, the ozzy blokes decided to pull out the duty free Jim Beam.4 bottle of!!

We all got sooo wrecked exchanging stories and hoping this traditional sacrifice would suprise us in the morning…

F..k  me!!! Did it ever!! We awoke with the heaviest hangover(felt like 1st of jan) And a roaring 6to 8ft swell!! Aw AW!!(check my facebook profile pic)

It was by far the most perfect, most heavy waves i have ever surfed.

When the tide came up, it was all about speedies(end section) This wave was 8ft chopes like tubes thundering down the reef!!Crapped myself.No time to even think about the babalass!! Only 10 guys out!! Got some amazing waves all day and managed to not lose any skin..I must of seen atleast 3 guys get heavily grated on the reef and countless guns broken and mangled!!

Swell stuck around for 2 more days , slowly tapering down to 4ft Usual size at G-Land.

This place is heaven!!! And the staff and people ive met here at JOYO`S have been amazing!!

Just thought i’d bang something together and let everyone know whats been going on.. let you know what the team has been up to.

Travis and Jacko are off to Canada, Canaries, US and Hawaii for the last leg of the WQS, Trav is lokking solid at number 10 and Jacko has an outside chance at number 20. Anything can happen though as there are about 4 6 star primes left – it will probably go down to Hawaii. I would be sick to see Trav and Jacko on the WT next year representing Quik and SA.

Young Beyrick has been on fine form cleaning up on the junior scene taking out the U20 King of the Groms and the Billabong Junior event in Vic Bay. He is now in Cali for a few events then off to Canada and Hawaii – his 1st time there, let’s see how he does.

Stan “Splinter” Badger is in Indo running riot at the moment, his blog posts are pretty classic – sounds like he is loving there. I would love to be a fly on the wall there to see what he has been getting up to. He is with a small crew and AVG is there behind the lens – the shot should be quite mad!!
Brett Shaw skated himself into the ground at the Bowlriders taking out 3rd spot, he was on fire and showed the kids what old school transition is all about!!

Kyle Lane has injured himself quite badly and has been out the water for quite some time, hope he can get the ankle sorted out pretty soon..

I will take u back to my last day in Cimaja..

Had a classic last surf with the two fellas that simon and i gave boards to..

With the swell decreasing heavily. captain AVG made a great descision to leave a day early to Jakarta and use the remainder of our budget to go stay in a 4 star hotel,equiped with spa ,theme park, u name it and go take a squiz at the much talked about night life in the big city..

Well the boys had a relaxing day and a rampant party at a couple night clubs before heading out the following day..All going back to SA except myself and Dennis who were heading to Bali..

I got on avg`s computer and found my good mate Preeti on the chat..She`s been telling me to come visit her in G land , where she is the much needed doctor in the camp..I told her i was unable to pull off the mission due to our tight Bali budget…Her reply..”hang on mate lemme check something for ya…I just spoke to the boss and i can import a mate for a 7 day trip to visit me” FOR FREE!!! PREETIE U LEGEND! I said yes imidiatly!!! Unfortunatley Dennis didnt crack the nod..But said i would be stupid not to go..

So just like that i was booked in for a week trip leaving Bali the same night i flew in…I was doing flick flacks around the hotel!

The camp i was off to is called JOYOS and i was pumped…

The bus arrived here in the jungle early saterday morning, greated with fun 3to 4 ft waves at kongs at the top of the point..

The staff here are the most hospitable people i have ever met. Preeti was awake to great me on arrival! BIg hugs and kisses for Preeti the LEGEND , a cuppa and a good catch up chat…

I was in the water by 10am with the surf guide here Jamie an Ozzy charger with all the know how on where to paddle out and come in and which sections to ride on what tides!

I will fill u in with more of my last three days next time im on line..

I gotta run speedies is 6 with odd 8 fters and heaving like G land , thanks to me,Preeti and the ozzy crew sacrificing ourselves with a heavy Jim Beam session last nite!

The jungle rocks!!!

hello from bali!

Day before yesterday payne ,fish and i were riding out at cimaja point with all the grommets..waves were pretty average and it was p@$$ing rain!

All the indo  groms got out the water and watched us ride the point for hrs! Simon did a late crack off the lip and with a loud bang snapped his board…so load that the groms on the beach instantly knew he had creased his fishstix bad!

2 minutes later the same erruption on the beach,due to a late drop by stan and a board creased in 4 places..i chose the most promising surfer of the bunch and handed him a “fresh Baron” He is off to bali on sunday to compete against other indo groms in a grand final something or other at halfways Kuta, with a good stick, stoked.

Turned out the kid is part ozzy and a girl who i shmaaked was his sister…ha! instant points..So he scored and i scored!!!!

well i gotta run my shuttle to G-Land is leaving! thats a whole nother classic lux i scored..will tell ya all about it when im there!

G`day folks

Another pearler day here in Cimaja!

Yesterday we hired a cabbie and headed far west, found some cool set ups, but not good enough to get us spoilt surfed ut buggers out there..so we headed home to have a lay day filled with bintangs endless eating and epic massages!!

Hit a late arvo surf at Cimaja`s bread and butter,the main point, to check out distance and angles for todays shoot.

This morning we woke up to 3to 4ft perfect Keramas style rights, with AVG sitting on my stick shooting from the channel…The results were epic..Sure to be gracing the zag pages soon!

Having some brekkie now. Yoh! its friegen boiling here..arvo siesta`s all round and a flash shoot on the point this evening..

We decided to get a ride back a day early to treat ourselves to some 3star luxury in Jakarta..The hotel has a gym, steam room,sauna,25m pool and spa!Its gonna be sick! “We deserve it” sais AVG. “We have nailed it”!

The rest of the crew all head back home the following day and Dennis and I will be off to Bali for 12 days of parties and barrels!!

Its been an amazing last couple of days here in Indo!

Yesterday we got up at 3 am to head to Turtles a sick left hander,3 hrs away from Cimaja..We arrived to just about dry left handers..Too dry infact. Even for Dennis and Fish, on their forehands..

Grumpy and tired, we were just about to head back, when one of the dudes at Turtles camp tuned us to maybe go check out a couple of gnarly secret spots further west..Our choices were, hire a boat or take moter bike rides with some locals who know the area..We decided to choose the latter.

My gosh, what a sick idea..5 of us on boneys with indo dudes tareing through the java jungle for 45 mins on paths just narrow enough to walk on..crossing to small rivers and whipping ourselves to pieces on passing vegetation! But hell, these o`s would smoke Rossi on this coarse!

Eventually winding up at …….  Perfect offshore no one in sight(again) and a massive left out the back  and a draing 3ft left on dry coral!

Another sick day of adventure and too much sun, we headed “home!

We now chilling and waiting here for arvo light and some flash action with AVG on the mental local right point(like keramas).

Adventure never stops here..We actually need a rest now….Nah! this is indo, rest when u back on the couch watching dstv at home!

This has been so crazy 3rd day in a row with noone in sight except a couple locals on the beach! Yesterday Jerry , our mate and guide(brother of Dede suriana,local pro) took me simon,avg,billy payne and Shawn Dennis on a crummy fishing boat 2 hrs south to find his secret left…

What did we find? FRigein perfection 4ft left reef to ourselves.  Pits ramps etc. for 4hrs straight!

Today we ventured north in the bemo(not bema) the local mini combi, to a seeek beachy.

It was 4 to 5ft A frames like mexico. Also no one out! We spent 2 hrs getting shacked offf our heads! AVG reckons the stuff he shot was amazing!

On that note , i am slugging bintangs by the pool as the wind is onshore now! We are having a cracka this side!

im off for a massage now!

Lifes good and indo is better!!!!

G`day all from Cimaja, Indo!

Well, where do i start. ..Spose at the begining.

Myself and Shaun Dennis were in slummies for s.a. junior champs.coaching and commentating.The weather and the waves,bar the finals were shocking , howling onshore and raining! So we are frothing to be in paradice..I nearly  didnt get here tho..Lost my passport6 in e.l. airport. got a lady to find it on the floor in the back of departure lounge and send it with her uncle ,thank god, on the next flight which landed 40 min before my international flight took off! Thanx Lisiwe!!

After lotsa running and stressing and begging i was thru check in.

then the atm swallowed my card!! no bucks for stan!

Eventually we are all here and frigin loving life, barrels on first day and seek shot!!

I cant afford to lose more weight but the sweating is part of it! sweaty hot barrels tho!
