Hey, it’s almost time – we are heading up to Tofinho, Mozambique on a surf trip this weekend. We will be shooting images and a TV show for Boardriders TV with all the latest Quiksilver boardshorts that will be coming this summer (Aug – Dec)..

We got a good crew coming: Brandon Jackson, Dan Redman, Beyrick De Vries, Kyle Lane, Mikey February, Slade Prestwich, Brendon Gibbens and Davey van Zyl. Tere will also be two filmers and Luke patterson shooting stills.

We are up there for 8 days and are staying on the beach.. should be lots of fun – just hope the sun is out and there are some waves..

Iv just come off an extended holiday. My summer holiday is officially over. Back to surfing again. Thing about that though is that theres been no waves. Been small, humid and jut for sometime now. There should have been at least one cyclone swell by now, but nothing. The situation has got me all over the anti-depressant pills.
One thing myself and a couple of the quik crew are looking forward to is a trip up to Tofino, Mozambique in a couple weeks time. Its unexplored territory for me so pretty excited to see the place. Heard its a really cool joint even if the waves dont produce while we there. But I hope they do cause I need to surf something decent asap.

For the past couple months I have been reading childrens books to an elderly group from a home close to my home which lies close to my heart. I have been able to do this in my spare time when I have not been playing golf or catching up with my bridge crew. I like to give back to the community where the common folk cant, wont or are just to consumed in their own lives to lend a hand to the needy. Sometimes i take double shifts.

I have not updated my blog of recent due to that horrible thing called writer’s block. Been an extremely hard time for me just to over come this and be able to freely express my past couple days with you. Its beyond frustrating.
You will be looking down, ready to put pen to paper, or at least finger to keyboard and everything goes blank. Its like sticking your ear to a sea shell and all you can hear is the sea. But you usually find shells at the sea and then you listening to a shell make the sound of the sea when you standing right next to the sea. Whats the point of that? i dont get it. None of this probably makes sense.
But I put my head down yesterday and the words just started to flow. I could not stop writing. The flow of all the words reminded me of a beatboxer I saw at a dance show on the weekend. He was just flowing with beats while the dancers where just flowing around him. Or where they floating? And then the show ended and I found myself walking out the church spitting rhymes and dancing and spitting beats. I think I have talent. Durban has talent. And do not let anyone tell you otherwise. I had a great opportunity to work on my tan last week. Myself and two friends ended up poolside at a hotel in Umhlanga. The weather was to splendid and so was the urine temperature pool. It was also urine flavoured and my friend Ronald did not hesitate to get drunk on it. My other friend Swanky could not find the pool because of those two slits on his face he calls eyes. I eventually guided him to it like a good guide dog would.
Unfortunately my tan did not go brown. It just went red. Which it usually does and i should have known better. The real problem with that was i had to go to a bombsurf mag fashion shoot the next day. It was for their summer edition so it was just boardies we had to wear. I was physically burned and getting verbally burned by everyone there. I hope they got some sort of an amazing false idol like god that can operate the photoshop buttons like that wizard from middle earth. Otherwise my rep is destroyed.
I also heard Micheal Jackson died. Shocked!

Had a bit of a mare the past couple days.
Firstly on Friday I went for a quick surf late in the arvo cause i knew the weekend was gonna be a write off for waves (and it was). After a couple waves i fell off in a clumsy position and caught the nose of my board straight into my head just above my ear. Thought i was gonna start puking from the pain. Put a nice solid little round gash in there and earned myself one swollen jaw for my efforts.
Managed to survive the whole weekend with out any incidents then come late Monday arvo and I start feeling really ill. Figured out Iv caught some sort of virus.
Still feeling all kinds of weak. But its all good cause I was due a couple days sick leave so Iv got a legit excuse to take them now.

The week started off with some really good weather which provided some good photo shoot opportunities. Myself and the likes of the Basnetts, Jack’osons, Logies, Le Pans and even our neighboring Asian friend Swanky where all out at a semi secret private beach location north of Durban. You can only get access to this beach if you know people. I do know people but those people dont know me so I had to do the 40 min paddle across angry porpoise infested waters. You do crazy things sometimes when you hear there is a photographer in the water.
Needless to say I didnt really get any shots but everyone else hooked up with some decent pics. I was just there for moral support and making sure there where was order in the lineup. And giving them all tips on their styles and what is the latest coolest lingo, where they should shop and so on and so on.
The weather has gone pear shaped again so I’m gonna hang up my booties and read my latest book about a white boy in Rhodesia. I can relate to the book because I’m also white, but I’m not from Rhodesia. I don’t know who Rhodesia is but I think he passed away some time ago.

Alright

Getting pretty over Durbans weekend after weekend of overcast weather. Leaves me feeling miserable and depressed.
There where some waves at least. Heard town was pretty good. I decided not to do the coastal mission into town this weekend though and just surfed at my local secret spots nearest to my abode.

Other than that it was a pretty uneventful last couple days but looks like the sun will be shining the next couple days so Im gonna get as much water time as possible before the weather turns sour again.
In other news the new club in Durban called The Origin is nutz!!
